REGION
Rioja, Spain – Yes, that Rioja. The region where tradition often suffocates freshness. But forget the dusty, old-school giants; this bottle is from the new guard in Rioja, dedicated to sustainability and letting the pure fruit shine.
It's a classic region getting a modern, vibrant facelift.
VARIETAL
Tempranillo, the king of Spanish grapes. This isn't the heavy, leather & smoke Tempranillo of old; this is the vibrant, energetic version. Instead, it offers a shocking amount of pure fruit, demonstrating that even this workhorse grape can learn to have some fun.
NOSE
A beautiful cherry-red color promises freshness. It’s a burst of black and red strawberries and ripe red cherry, backed by beautiful floral notes. There's an undertone of spice & toast from the oak, but the fruit is the star, it’s fresh and juicy, a graceful nod to tradition
that thankfully doesn't overstay its welcome.
PALATE
This is what we call "Glou Glou" to the max! The palate is wonderfully fresh and balanced, a medium body and an appetizing rush of juicy red fruit. The tannins are round and enveloping, giving the wine a softness that doesn't need hours of decanting. It's clean, harmonious, and built for immediate pleasure, making it an excellent choice for a weeknight.
This is the low-commitment Rioja you didn’t know you needed.
WINEMAKING NOTES
The current generation, led by the Espinosa sisters, is embracing organic farming and low intervention in Rioja. They use ambient yeasts and age the wine in French oak, but crucially, they restrain themselves. They've found the sweet spot where tradition meets modern drinkability, without any of the unnecessary cellar trickery.
EL MARUJO MEANS
A Spanish term that roughly translates to "the loafer" or "the idler." An ironic name for a wine that works so hard to be this enjoyable.
