REGION

Manchuela, Spain. This isn't easy going coastal life, this is high altitude, rugged interior Spain. A harsh and demanding land where vines are forced to dig deep into rocky, clay-limestone soils. Only grapes with serious, fundamental character survive here, even less thrive.

VARIETAL

An interesting rogue blend: a Bobal-dominated field blend that includes a hefty (around 30%) of indigenous white grapes. This is a fundamental tradition in Manchuela, Spain and Finca Sandoval follows suit, using co-fermentation to create a harmonious red that is freshhh and intentional.

NOSE

This is an intriguing and complex nose that smells less of fruit and more of a smoky spice cabinet. But you will find dark black cherry and wild raspberry with savory notes of Mediterranean herbs,

cured meats, and a hint of black olive.

It’s layered, demanding, and absolutely Spanish.

PALATE

Vibrant and refreshingly complex. The co-fermentation of white grapes gives it a noticeable lift and a chalky texture that defines its structure. It's concentrated without being heavy, delivering a meaty, herbal core with bright acidity.

WINEMAKING NOTES

Founded by a Spanish wine critic, Finca Sandoval is now in the talented hands of winemaker Javi Revert. Using 80 plus year old vines, has created a certified organic field blend that’s aged for 10 months in large, neutral clay tinajas (amphorae). This eliminates the vanilla weight of new oak, strips the wine bare, and lets the pure, rugged soil of Manchuela speak for itself.

FUNDAMENTALISTA MEANS

"Fundamentalist." The name is a direct declaration of the winery's intent to return to the core, fundamental principles of winemaking, old vines, co-fermentation, and neutral vessels, showing the true potential of the land.
