REGION
Sannio, Campania, Italy. This Mediterranean climate surrounded by rolling hills also boasts volcanic soils. Sannio is located north of Naples and inland from the Tyrrhenian Sea.
VARIETAL
Piedirosso, is a native Campanian grape known for its vibrant fruit. While they are not the same grape, there has been some speculation about a potential historical relationship between Piedirosso and Grenache.
NOSE
Ripe red cherries and plums are at the forefront with earthy notes of herbs and a touch of smoky spice.
PALATE
On the palate juicy red fruit sets the tone, balanced by soft tannins. Then we get some minerality, again suggestive of the volcanic soils. The finish leaves a trace of spice and earth.
WINEMAKING NOTES
Mustilli, a family-run winery, is dedicated to preserving the traditions of the Sannio region. They employ sustainable practices and minimal intervention winemaking. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks, and the wine is aged briefly before bottling. This ensures a pure and vibrant expression.
PAIRING
This Piedirosso is perfect for classic Italian. Wood-fired pizzas with fresh mozzarella and basil, hearty pasta dishes with tomato sauce, or grilled meats with roasted vegetables. Its acidity and soft tannins make it an easy food pairing wine.
Sannio means "Healthy" or "Sound" in ancient Oscan.
It’s a land where the vines thrive & the wines reflect that vitality.
